THE IDEA OF AN EQUALIZER-RESEMBLING PATH/TRACE

We decided to include a graphic resembling an equializer (An equalizer is the circuit or equipment used to achieve equalization) for a couple of reasons. The first one being that it creates a better sense of movement within the piece and really allows the viewers to follow this movement in a more entertaining way- through colors. The second reason being that the traces being left as step behind the icons create a balance on the screen and contribute for a better composition.

As you can see on the image below, me and my team have visualized the data of cryptocurrency in a sort of a graph. This graph however is not actually accurate if you follow the icons jumping up and down because we can see cryptocurrencies such as the omisego (cryptocurrency with the word ’go’ in a blue circle) is escalating beyond the bitcoin whilst in fact omisego is 19th on the list of cryptocurrencies by value and bitcoin is first. This was made for aesthetic purposes, but has not been fully idealised. The idea was for the path of the icons not to go off screen and create a better visualization. We touched up some other stuff for aesthetic purposes such as photoshopping the images. We simply made their background transparent because when downloaded from the internet most had a square shape behind them and this was covering up numbers or other icons and ruining the image. We also used the function noise when creating the spring because it created a random, yet more natural ordered harmonic succession of numbers, in this case used for the spring created underneath the icons. We also thought about color coordination such as two of the icons being neon green so we made the date text neon green and so on. The white background gives a clear and clean view of what is important...the icons. The black background previously used was not fitted because it almost created and atmosphere which was hiding the image being portrayed.

HOW DOES THE PROJECT LINK TO DATA ADDICTION?
Crypto Currency is a digital currency exchange system which can be used in certain real life scenarios such as donating to charities, buying houses, buying or selling artwork and even Universities. (University of Nicosa in Cyprus is the first university to accept bitcoin for their tuition fees). You can obtain bitcoin through exchanging with people or
purchasing it.

It is considered to be our future even though the legal status of these currencies vary from country to country yet more and more people are investing into crypto currency and more places accept it - Ultimately, this is the reason why it’s a representation of data addiction. People prefer to use digital things as opposed to physical which then eventually turns into an addiction.

Here is a screenshot of a person confessing their addiction to tracing every move of cryptocurrencies. This data addiction becomes uncontrollable, a bit like gambling in a casino, however it is done online. This addiction should not be underestimated as it can take control of your life and make you forget what is important.
