SAATCHI exhibition (w1)
As I wasn’t able to attend any event during the Digital Design Week in London, I decided to visit one of the best know Galleries in London, called Saatchi Gallery. I visited a few exhibitions, one of which was called “Altered States”. One of the exhibits which really caught my eye was this assemble of 4 paintings. It reminded me of the way animation is created, because of the flow of movement from one image to another.

Another work which interested me was one by Dale Lewis called “Olympians”
The size of it is 200cm to 400cm. It’s dimensions really makes you take a good look at the ‘big picture’ and question its cultural value, as a nowadays reality.
Furthermore the only object that could be categorized as Digital Art, was a bedside lamp made by an Italian company called Seletti. What intrigued me about this piece was the choice of animal. A mouse or a rat is usually associated with trash and considered a pest, so the idea of having it by your bedside doesn’t sound very comforting.
One of my currently most favourite pieces in the Digital Art industry has to be of the very well known artist Banksy. It is called 'First World Problems'. The piece depicts many errors in todays way of living and qustions peoples social and even moral values. The image is of a very young boy holding a phone and and his facial expression makes us believe that in the scene of which he is presented, he is screaming desperately. The red bar shown above his face represents the bar on the social media instagram, which gives you the following information;
-how many likes you have
-how many people have commented on your photo
-and how many requests of followers do you have
Realistically this is just a social media website where people can share moments with their loved ones, or portray their views on topics which interest them. However this is not the opinion that everyone has. People who are born before the invention and distribution of the smart phone are more likely to see the realistic view. In controversy people who were brought up with smart phones, tablets and other smart gadgets can be considered almost incapable of living without all this new technology.
I think what this graffity by Banksy is trying to show is the unrealized addiction which people have developed over their social status on the cyberspace.
